Jaume Antich Femenias (Barcelona, 1934), one of the leading figures in pediatrics and clinical genetics in Catalonia, passed away last Wednesday at the age of 90, leaving a legacy of great significance for the country’s medical field.
The academic, trained in the United States, was the founder of the genetics and biochemistry departments in several hospitals in Barcelona. Recognized as a true authority in his fields of expertise, he was a member, among other prestigious institutions, of the Academy of Acadèmia de Ciències Mèdiques and, since 1980, of the European Royal Academy of Doctors.
His profound vocation for the health sciences, passed down from his family, led him to earn a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona in 1957.
